Police in Ludhiana late on Tuesday detained four suspects in connection with the rape of a 70-year-old nun in Rangahat on March 14.
Sources confirmed the suspects were picked from Moti Nagar area of Ludhiana.
The raids to nab the suspects were being conducted since Tuesday morning.
Sources from the police department said all the four suspects are from Bangladesh.
Refusing to divulge any further details, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Naveen Singla told The Indian Express that they working in coordination with the West Bengal Police. “The four are being interrogated. More information cannot be revealed as of now,” said Singla.
It is learnt that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) alerted the Ludhiana police that four Bangladesh nationals, who are suspects in the nun rape case, had entered Ludhiana late on Monday. Following the alert, the police began tracking the suspects persons using mobile tower locations.
On Tuesday, raids were conducted in Jamalpur, Moti Nagar, Focal Point and other areas. Meanwhile, DIG of West Bengal CID, Dilip Adak, said they may send a team to Ludhiana if something substantial comes up in the case.
