Dissatisfied with the report submitted by the School Service Commission (SSC) authorities on the recent SSC examination fiasco, the state education department has decided to conduct a separate inquiry of its own.
Officials of the education department said even after telling the SSC chairman to mention the names of those responsible, the chairman had failed to do so in his report. Therefore,Education Minister Bratya Basu had ordered a separate inquiry.
Rumours have been brewing that the SSC chairman,Chittaranjan Mondal, could be transferred to a lesser position.
A section of officials, however, suspected sabotage by CPM goons as well as a section of Muslim students, which led to mismanagement during the examination. The officials believed Mondal was shielding such people to avoid hassles.
Mondal did not divulge any details in the report. He only said that a few days before the examination, some Muslim students visited his chamber and asked him to reschedule the examination on account of Ramzan. However,as the date of the examination had been fixed long ago,Mondal told them that he would consider their request next year. His report also mentioned lack of coordination between district officials and the co-ordinator of SSC at various centres, leading to mismanagement.
Re-test has already been ordered at five centres.
