Cab aggregator Ola on Friday announced their tie-up with the iconic yellow taxis in Kolkata under which over 1000 taxis had already been registered on the cab booking mobile platform.
“Ola is launching the yellow taxi booking feature with over 1000 taxis registered across Kolkata to begin with. Over the next three months we will have over 5000 taxis with us,” Nitesh Prakash, Ola’s director (operations), told reporters here.
He said passengers, who book the yellow taxi through their app, would pay the regular meter fare of taxis.
“Besides the metered fare, a small amount of Rs 10 would be charged extra as convenience fee. You can pay either by cash or by Ola Money, Ola’s mobile wallet service,” Prakash said.
“Yellow taxis had been here for decades and the riding experience has not changed for people. We have given a little technological spin and solved the hassle of finding cabs on the and added a layer of security to the system as well which was non-existent previously,” said Anand Subramanian, Ola’s senior director, marketing communication.
He said once a yellow taxi driver signs up with Ola, he will have to go through a document verfication and training programme before starting to take passengers.
“Besides checking and verifying the documentations, licence as well as the condition of the vehicle, the driver is trained with the technology as well as equipped with behavioral etiquette,” Subramanian said.
