After the success of the new-look Kolkata Film Festival,the focus has now shifted to next years Kolkata Book Fair. The theme of the book fair which will begin on January 24 will be Italy and the event will witness participation of countries like Turkey,Japan and Saudi Arabia for the first time.
Entry fees for the fair which will continue till February 5 at the Milan Mela ground have also been waived.
An official press release stated that an active guidance council has been formed for the fair. Renowned litterateurs and artists like Mahasweta Devi,Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay,Jogen Chowdhury and others will be the part of this council.
The council during its first meeting held on September 16 gave suggestions for proper illumination of the ground and easier access to the stalls. As a result of this,the number of the stalls will go down this time,said sources.
Noted Italian writers like Valerio Massimo Manfredi and Beppe Severgnini will also deliver lectures at the event.
For the first time in the history of the event,a Kolkata Literary Meet styled on the lines of the Edinburgh Literary Festival,the Hay Festival and the Jaipur Literature Festival has been planned.
To commemorate Swami Vivekanandas 150th birth anniversary,a separate Vivekananda Hall will be set up at the festival.
