Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Railway Minister Mukul Roy on Tuesday criticised Tripura Chief Minister and CPM Politburo member Manik Sarkar for touring West Bengal and “propagating concocted campaign against the Mamata Banerjee government”.

Two days ago at a rally in Shyamnagar,Sarkar and his party chief Prakash Karat had lashed out at the Trinamool Congress-led government for “failing to perform in every sector”.

Addressing a rally at the same place,Roy responded angrily to Sarkar’s remarks, saying he should stay in Tripura as retaining the post of chief ministership will not be easy for the CP-M leader this time. “Parliament has completed its 60 years. This is a matter of pride for us. Also a matter of pride for the people of West Bengal is the fall of 34-year long Left rule. People here have given the verdict. They will not tolerate a concocted campaign against the Trinamool by a man from Tripura. He (Sarkar) will not become the CM next time,” Roy said.

“The CPM no longer exists in West Bengal. In the next panchayat election,Trinamool’s performance will be outstanding,” Roy said.

“In the elections held earlier, opposition party workers were not even allowed to enter the booth premises. Those who unleashed terror are now advising us. People will no longer tolerate this. The CPM is observing the anniversary of its defeat at our hands,” Roy remarked.

He praised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for “tackling the Maoist problem” in Junglemahal and added that “the model should be replicated in all states”.
