More troop in to show solidarity with JU prof

The criticisms against the Mamata Banerjee-led government over the arrest of Jadavpur University professor in connection with the cartoon row has grown louder and louder with more social organisations voicing their concerns.

The criticisms against the Mamata Banerjee-led government over the arrest of Jadavpur University professor in connection with the cartoon row has grown louder and louder with more social organisations voicing their concerns.

A host of outfits came together and organised rally in various parts of the city to protest what they called the “vindictive attitude of the Trinamool government.” Members of the APDR and DSO,meanwhile,convened a rally at College Street and protested against the the arrests.

Speaking on the occasion,Mahapatra said that he along with his family suffers from lack of security and they need police protection.

At Jadavpur University,students,former students ,teachers,intellectuals will convene a rally from the varsity campus on April 18 in protest against the incident. The JU teachers are planning to send a deputation to the Governor protesting against the harassment of JU professor.

Eminent writer Joya Mitra view it as a “dangerous trend” which reminds the return of anarchy and cadre raj. She said TMC cadres are behaving the same way the CPM cadres did during Singur-Nandigram period and the police are acting in a partisan manner.”

MLA Tarun Naskar from SUCI, who himself is also a JU professor,condemned police highhandedness and said,“Mahapatra’s right of expression is fundamental and his arrest is shocking.”
