Taking into consideration the need for making Metro security personnel more efficient in the wake of increasing threat from terrorists, plans are afoot to get them trained by the Kolkata police and the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB).
Personnel of Railway Police Force (RPF) and Metro Railway Police (MRP),who man all the 17 stations of the Metro, had been receiving the training from the city police and SIB earlier, too, but only occasionally. Now,it has been recommended that such specialised training be made a regular affair.
Usually the RPF and MRP personnel do not receive any special training. Sometimes, police brief them and give some tips. However,a recommendation has been made jointly by the SIB and Kolkata police to train them specifically for emergencies, said J K Mitra,Chief Operations Manager,Kolkata Metro Railway.
