The CPM has demanded the resignation of Union foreign minister Arun Jaitley following allegations that his daughter received money from fugitive jeweller Mehul Choksi.
CPM state secretary Surjya-kanta Mishra late on Monday night shared Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s tweet where the latter made the allegation. He also urged opposition parties to demand the same if the Union minister refuses to step down.
“The FM must either defend himself or resign pending further investigation. If he opts for none, the PM must recommend to the President to remove the FM from his Cabinet. If none of these happens the entire Opposition should demand resignation of the PM,” Mishra wrote sharing Gandhi’s tweet.
Yesterday the Congress president accused Jaitley of helping Choksi flee the country and alleged that the Union minister’s daughter and son-in-law received retainership fees from the businessman. His party also demanded that Jaitley must resign on moral grounds.
“Arun Jaitley’s daughter was on the payroll of thief Mehul Choksi. Meanwhile her FM daddy sat on his file & allowed him to flee,” Rahul had tweeted on Monday. He had also mentioned an account number, from which, he alleged that Jaitley’s daughter had received fnds.
