‘Disturbed’ due to old age ailments, man kills elderly father in Bengal’s Baranagar

A 52-year-old man has allegedly confessed to murdering his elderly father in West Bengal’s Baranagar early Tuesday morning. He said he was “disturbed by his father’s old-age ailments”, the police said.

Goutam Adhikary, son of 74-year-old Lalit Adhikary, surrendered at the Baranagar police station in North 24 Parganas district around 3 am on Tuesday. The police said he told officers that he had “smothered his father with a pillow”.

The police then reached the Adhikary residence to find Lalit lying unconscious on his bed in a first-floor bedroom. The body was then shifted to a hospital for autopsy.

The deceased’s daughter, Renu Adhikary, has filed a formal complaint and authorities have launched an investigation.
