West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today reiterated her partys oft-repeated stand that it will not do anything that will cause the fall of the UPA government. At the same time, she made it clear that her party was ready for mid-term Lok Sabha election even if it was held tomorrow.
’We do not want the government to be toppled. Yes,there are some political parties in a democratic set-up that raise their voice. I have no objection. What the BJP is doing,is its prerogative. The Prime Minister has made his statement in Parliament, Mamata said this while speaking to reporters at Writers Buildings before she left for her tour of the four districts of north Bengal.
She also said that our party is ready for elections because in a democracy anytime is good time for elections. But depends on the situation and political circumstances… whether Congress can avail this opportunity or not. But if elections are held tomorrow,we are ready.
The Chief Minister further said she wanted the UPA government to complete its term. I do not want the government to be toppled in a year or two. We think the government must continue its term of five years…but if any disaster or anything big happens, all political parties can discuss the matter, Mamata said.
She also said her government has done a remarkable job in the past 15 months.
Sitting at a faraway place, you can make so many comments. We are trying our best though we have paucity of funds. We have given six lakh jobs,we have distributed 10 lakh kisan credit cards, arranged for reservation among minorities. We are against FDI in retail and pension fund and we stick to that.
