Unveiling grand designs,Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday that if the party comes to power, she will release all political prisoners and order a retrial of the genocide cases that have remained unresolved in the last 35 years of Left rule.
In an anti-violence rally in front of Mahatma Gandhis statue,Mamata set the poll mood, promising administrative reforms and that recommendations in the Sachar Committee Report will be implemented once her party comes to power. I am not blaming the police,I am blaming the government which has prevented the police from neutrally performing their duties, she announced. We will enable the police to maintain their neutrality. We will bring about complete administrative reforms in Bengal.
Again she listed the places Choto Angaria,Raina,Mangalkot,Nanoor,Netai,Singur,Nandigram,Marichjhapi and Saibari where hundreds have been killed allegedly by CPM cadres, but no trial has been held. I will reopen every single case and release the political prisoners. It will be the moment of freedom for Bengal.
Lambasting the Left for not bringing about any development or industrialisation in Bengal or Kolkata for the last 35 years, she alleged that many of the so called communists have black money stashed in foreign banks.
Many unpleasant facts will be revealed if an investigation is carried out on the black money from Bengal stashed in foreign banks, she said. That money should immediately be brought back and used for the states development, especially now when the state is steeped in a debt amounting to Rs 2 lakh crore. She,however, chose to remain silent on the involvement of Congress leaders in the black money issue.
Despite facing almost no opposition, the Front had not set up industries in the state over the last 35 years.
Around 55,000 big industries and 1,34,000 small industries have closed down in the last 35 years. Of the three industrial towns set up by Bidhan Chandra Roy,Kalyani has dried up,Durgapur is sick and Asansol is under the control of coal mafias… If we come,my first priority will be to bring back the young brains to Bengal,so they can start new initiatives in their own state.
The SUCI,which had allied with Trinamool in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, was present at the rally. Expressing her desire to strike an alliance with Congress as well as SUCI,Mamata gave a clarion call to all Left leaning intellectuals to come and join Trinamool before the Assembly elections.
