Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday invited the Maoist leadership for a “political dialogue” with the government and said she was ready to hold talks with the Maoists based on an ideological plan. “But I am not ready to tolerate any goondaism by the so-called Maoist groups, who are coming from across the borders from Jharkhand and Orissa and trying to kill people here in Junglemahal,” said the Chief Minister at a rally as part of her panchayat election campaign.

“I have information that a group of 20 Maoists often visit the area and try to create disturbance there. They have plans to kill me,too,” said Banejee. To that, she threw an open challenge to the Maoists, saying: “Today I am daring you to kill me if you have the guts. It is my challenge to you. Come and kill me at any time and at any place you want. If you have the guts, come with your AK-47 (rifles) and attack me. I will be standing here at this field in Jamboni. My people are there to resist,” thundered Banerjee.

She reiterated her allegation that the CPM and Congress have joined hands with the Maoists.

“I have reports that some of the Maoist groups have joined hands with the CPM and Congress and they are now a combined force. This combined force is now trying to carry out a big attack on the people in Junglemahal during the Panchayat election. This is not a political statement. This is a government report to which I am referring,” said Banerjee.

She,meanwhile, appealed to the people in Junglemahal to “take the pain of reaching the polling booths” and cast their votes for her party, the Trinamool Congress. “I know that this is the rainy season and it is not the time to conduct elections. But the election is being held by the order of the court. So I am requesting all of you to take the pain to reach the booths even if there is rain and cast your votes for TMC. Always remember that if you do not cast your vote,TMC might lose. And if TMC is defeated, the Maoists will return and capture the area.”

Sending a warning signal to some of the chit fund companies,Banerjee said,“I know that there are certain chit fund companies who are funding the Maoists and providing shelter to them. I know that these companies are also giving money to the CPM. I am warning them that I will not tolerate these activities for long.”
