The Left Front on Friday demanded that the state government should provide a comprehensive package for farmers affected by the Norwester that lashed some districts this week and Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the storm.
A Left Front delegation led by CPM leader Anisur Rahaman met Agriculture minister Moloy Ghatak and Disaster Management minister Javed Ahmed Khan with the demand for the package and compensation.
Rahaman also demanded kits for alternative agriculture free of cost,crop insurance for farmers and waiver of agriculture loans.
He called for immediate assessment of damages in affected districts by an independent agency and preparation of a list of affected farmers for compensation under various central schemes.
The delegation demanded repair or construction of houses damaged in the storm and supply of food,clothes and tarpaulins to the affected people.
