The ACJM court in Haldia on Tuesday remanded former CPM MP Lakshman Seth and two more party leaders Ashoke Guria and Amiya Shau in the jail custody for fourteen days in connection with the 2007 Nandigram killings case. This after the CID,which is probing the case, did not seek extension of the trios remand in police custody saying the agency has already collected important material and evidence during their interrogation.
However, the court rejected the trios bail plea after the CID said the investigation into the case of the six missing persons from Nandigram on November 10,2007 is yet to be completed. The release of the three CPM leaders on bail would hamper the investigation at this stage as they would try to influence the witnesses, the CIDs lawyer told the court.
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court granted anticipatory bail to the two of the 10 accused who have been chargesheeted by the CID in connection with the same case and are currently absconding.
