A delivery agent and a woman, both in their 20s, have been arrested in connection with the death of a Chartered Accountant, whose naked body was found with legs tied, in a hotel room in south Kolkata’s Kasba area on Saturday afternoon.

Police on Sunday said they have identified the two arrested as Dhruvo Mitra, the delivery agent from Nadia, and Kamal Saha, resident of Barrackpore.

According to police, Dhruvo Mitra and Kamal Saha were seen in the CCTV footage of the hotel entering CA Adarsh Losalalka’s hotel room at 9 pm on Friday and leaving his room, as well as the hotel, after five and a half hours at 2.30 am. Losalalka’s body was found the next day, on Saturday afternoon.

Sources said Losalalka, who lived in a rented flat in Kolkata with friends, had booked two rooms in the hotel. He checked into one of the booked rooms on Friday at 8.30 pm. At the same time, Dhruvo and Kamal were seen checking in at the hotel and entering another room, which was also booked by Losalalka. Later, around 9 pm, Dhruvo and Kamal were seen entering Losalalka’s room.

“Kamal has said during questioning that she met Adarsh Losalalka through a dating app and met him for the first time in person on Friday evening,” a police officer said.

“During questioning, she said that there was an argument with Adarsh Losalalka that led to a scuffle in which he fell on the floor. They then tied his legs and ran away,” a police officer said, adding that the post-mortem report has concluded that Adarsh Losalalka died of strangulation.

“The death was due to the effects of mechanical asphyxia resulting from strangulation, antemortem and homicidal in nature,” the post-mortem report stated.

Since the body of Adarsh Losalalka was found naked with his legs tied with a towel and a deep gash on the back of his head, the police suspect that the CA was hit from behind and then strangulated.

“Condoms were recovered from the crime spot. Also, Losalalka’s mobile phone and wallet were missing. We suspect that the two suspects took the wallet and mobile phone with them. We are probing whether money was withdrawn from Adarsh Losalalka’s bank account after the murder,” said a senior police officer.

Sources said that all social media accounts, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and other chat accounts of Losalalka, were deactivated after the murder.

“While the woman and Adarsh Losalalka met through a dating app, it’s not clear how Dhruvo Mitra is linked to them, especially Kamal, since both were seen checking into the same hotel room. We are probing all angles, including whether the two suspects ran a sex racket,” said a police officer involved in the probe.

Meanwhile, Adarsh Losalalka’s father, Bimal, who lives in Birbhum, said, “My son loved to travel and was a very jolly person. He never had any enemies. On Friday, he spoke to me for two minutes and said he was out for work and will meet some friends. After that, we were unable to reach him. He had told me recently that he was getting a promotion and a raise, which some of his colleagues did not like.”

Meanwhile, Kolkata Police said that it will prepare a guideline for hotel owners on remaining vigilant so that such incidents can be prevented in the future.

Last month, a decomposed body of a man, who had checked into a hotel on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road in Kolkata, was found hidden inside the storage of the bed in the hotel room.
