Kolkata: 35-year-old TV director arrested after his car mows down 1, injures 8

Siddhant Das in Kolkata on Monday. He has been sent to police custody. (Express Photo) A day after a vegetable vendor was mowed down and eight others were injured by a car allegedly driven by TV serial director Siddhant Das, the 35-year-old was sent to police custody till April 10.
On Sunday morning around 9 am, the director’s car allegedly veered into a crowded Kolkata market after he reportedly lost control of the wheels on Sunday morning. Sources in the police said that Das was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, and lost control of his black SUV while travelling from Bakrahat to Gariahat.
Following the crash, angry residents vandalised the car and assaulted Das before police took him into their custody. Authorities also detained a woman who was travelling with Das. Police reported that a second woman, who was in the back seat, fled the scene. Upon inspection of the vehicle, police allegedly found four bottles of liquor. Das has been booked under BNS section 106 (causing death by negligence).
