Clout on the wane
Is Partha Chatterjees clout, once the No. 2 in Mamata Banerjees cabinet,on the wane? Consider this. A day before Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees meeting with officials of North-24 Parganas at Barasat on September 10,Chatterjee was blissfully unaware he had to be present at the meeting. At 2 pm that day after some reporters told him about the programme,Chatterjee checked with his private secretary, who told him he had received the letter in this regard. The minister had to cancel other appointments for the next day to make himself available for the CMs programme.
Officials of the state power distribution firm were taken aback when they saw the note of the chief secretary for the CMs programmes in the district. The note asked the MD of the state PSU M S Nikam to see that power is not interrupted during the CMs meetings with district officials. The officials were trying to recollect when they had seen such a note before.
