Chartered accountant Adarsh Losalka, who was found dead inside a hotel in Kolkata’s Kasba area on November 22, was allegedly murdered over a dispute involving ₹2,000, police sources said on Wednesday.

According to the sources, Losalka had arranged to meet the two accused, Dhruvo Mitra and Kamal Saha, at the hotel. The accused, who were arrested after they surrendered, allegedly had a joint account on Bumble, and Losalka had matched with their profile on November 20.

According to police sources, during interrogation, the accused alleged that Losalka refused to pay the agreed amount, and this led to an argument between the trio. The dispute escalated into a scuffle, which ended in Losalka’s death.

So far, the police investigation has revealed that Losalka met the accused through Bumble, agreed to book two rooms in his name, and met them at the Kasba hotel on November 21. The trio allegedly partied in the room that night. The next day, the hotel staff discovered Losalka’s body.

Losalka was found naked, his legs were tied, and he had a fractured nose, police sources said. The accused allegedly confessed to taking ₹1,500 from his wallet along with his ATM card and mobile phone. They booked a bike ride via an app and fled to Ultadanga. They then attempted to withdraw a large sum of money from Losalka’s bank account.

According to the police, the accused inserted Losalka’s SIM card into their own phone, used the ‘forgot PIN’ option to reset the ATM PIN, and received the new PIN via SMS. They then withdrew ₹11,000 from his account before going on the run.

The accused allegedly travelled across Barrackpore, Naihati and Krishnanagar before returning to Dum Dum. By then, the police had launched a search. On November 23, the accused surrendered to the police.

Investigators have found that the app through which the accused had connected with Losalka had been deleted from their phones. The police are checking if it has been used to target others. Footage from multiple CCTV cameras in the Kasba hotel is also being reviewed to verify the sequence of events and cross-check the accused’s statements.
