Elated over the astounding 90 per cent growth in Information Technology sector regist-red by the state in the last two years,West Bengal Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee,Friday, said even Bangalore is lagging behind us.
Chatterjee, whom Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had berated last month for the states abysmal performance in the IT sector, put the new export figures above those from Bangalore. Last year we exported IT worth Rs 7,000 crore. The figure this year has gone up to Rs 9,000 crore. Even Bangalore is lagging behind us, Chatterjee said.
The minister also said the state is going to set up 13 IT hubs and three hardware parks across the state. While Asansol,Durgapur,Burdwan,Nadia,North-24 Parganas,Malda,Siliguri,Kharagpur,Kolkata, and Haldia are some of the districts to get the IT hubs, the three hardware parks will be set up at Naihati and Falta in North-24 Parganas (on a plot of 70 acre and 42 acre, respectively),and Sonarpur in South-24 Parganas district (on a 57-acre plot).
The minister, meanwhile, asked all industrial houses to return the land that are with them but not being used to the state government.
