According to the police records, the family of the victim lodged a complaint with the Bamongola police station on April 24,2013. The police completed the investigation and submitted the chargesheet to the court on April 27. The trial started on April 29.
The court found the undertrial guilty on May 17 under the Protection of Children from the Sexual Offences Act,2012.

Significantly,Malda is the first district in the state where a court, with woman judges and staff to deal exclusively with crimes against women, was inaugurated in January in Malda. The setting up of the court in Malda is significant as the district tops the list in women trafficking cases and atrocities against women in the state.
