Over 4.6 lakh candidates will appear for the 2009 Higher Secondary Examination beginning from Monday. More than 2 lakh candidates in the state are expected to appear in the examination from Kolkata alone.
This year the number of examinees has increased by 22,000 as compared to last year.
To publish the results of the examination by June 10 as per the courts directive,the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education has assigned 3,000 extra examiners to correct the answerscripts.
About 28,000 examiners and 757 head examiners will be assigned the task of checking the answerscripts.
Examinees will be given 15 minutes before the examination to go through the question papers.
The answerscripts will also be provided at the same so that if the examinees are keen on attempting the answer they can start then.
From March 17,the Class XI examination across the schools of West Bengal will start where another 4.7 lakh students will appear.
However unlike other years,the Class XI students will have to appear in the examination not from their school.
