The Calcutta High Court today directed Baishyanar Chatterjee,an advocate and TMC leader,to file an affidavit within one week in connection with a report that accuses him of pressurizing the Chief Judicial Magistrate of the Alipore Court to pass an order last September.
The report by the District Judge at the court in South 24 Parganas and the CJM states that Chatterjee and a few other advocates had entered into the CJMs chamber on September 26 and pressurized him to lodge an FIR against Arunav Ghosh,a practicing advocate and Congress leader, who, they alleged, had passed remark against Speaker Biman Banerjee in a public meeting in September, which, they claimed, amounted to criminal defamation.
The CJM,initially, refused to register the FIR on account of no sufficient material present in the application but was later pressurised into doing so,the report says, and adds that the CJM was threatened that court proceedings would be disrupted if he didnt do as requested.
Ghosh, too, meanwhile, had filed a petition in October in connection with the incident against which Justice Sanjib Banerjee directed the District Judge and the CJM to file a report. The report, against which the hearing came up today, presented the details. Thereafter,Justice Banerjee directed Chatterjee to file an affidavit in connecting with the report.
The case will come up for hearing in the last week of November.
