After the Saradha Group controversy and following the latest allegation by CPM leader Gautam Deb that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees nephew Abhishek Banerjee was the managing director of a chit fund company, the Trinamool Congress chief on Thursday told a public rally that she lived alone after her mother passed away and had no other relative.
The rotten chilly in the basket will be removed. There can be 500 members in a family, party, and all of them might not be honest, she said at Shyambazar five-point crossing.
There will be an inquiry and whoever is found guilty, including any of my party members, will be punished, she added.
While sitting on the dais among other heavyweights of the party was Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the Trinamool Yuva national president. He looked visibly disturbed and apparently forgot to clap with others after Mamata spoke.
The CM also alleged an alliance between the CPM and chit fund companies, and pulled out reams of paper to prove her claim. She also hinted at axing renegade party men.
The Trinamool chief said she was not aware of the activities of Saradha Group and other chit fund companies till the Bengali New Year. (Trinamool Congress MP) Kunal (Ghosh) was only a salaried employee of the group and he,too, never told me about the non-receipt of salary for the last three months.
During her speech which lasted for a little over one hour and 15 minutes,Mamata also waved several newspapers and magazines that had accepted adverts of small savings companies and had pictures of CPM leaders with chiefs of small savings companies.
While most of her cabinet ministers were present on the stage,Kunal Ghosh, significantly, was missing.
She went on to say that she will not do any injustice to anyone and will not encourage any corruption even if it is within her party while citing the example of Md Iqbal,Sambhu Nath Kow and Arabul Islam. She also went on to give a clean chit to Arabul, saying that in spite of being innocent,Arabul was put behind the bars.
Mamata also continued to bash the media, accusing certain newspapers and TV channels to be biased and being the mouthpiece of the Opposition. She also claimed that TMC newspaper Jago Bangla did not accept any advertisements from chit fund companies. She threatened to file FIRs against those responsible for the missing files at the Writers.
Mamata also clarified the allegation that she had returned from Delhi recently in a plane chartered by one of the chit fund companies chief. Before I had boarded the plane I had made sure that money was paid to the company, she said. Later, she put forward how her party had performed in the last two years and claimed they had completed 99 per cent of the work that they had promised.
