Trinamool Congress MP from Tamluk,Suvendu Adhikary, who has been spearheading the labour agitation at Haldia dock that led to the cargo-handling firm HBTs exit,on Friday echoed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees nothing happened remark saying Haldia port was 100 per cent normal.
Addressing a rally of Trinamool-backed labour union,he accused a section of media of working with vested interest. There is no problem at the port. The industries which operate here at the port for loading and unloading did not complain of any abnormality. The issue is completely politically motivated and has been created artificially by some of the media houses due to their vested interest, he said.
Saying that his involvement in the port activities was limited only to the retrenchment of 275 workers,Adhikary said: I am not interested in the business here. I do not want to know who is getting the tender and who will work in these two berths (vacated by HBT).
He also discounted that HBT was a leading business firm.
Several investments are taking place in Haldia. Several projects are going on. But these projects are not highlighted. Instead,a cargo clearing and handling agent is being accorded an industrialist status, he said.
