Those who cried foul over the state governments decision to sell chicken out of Writers Buildings have been proven wrong. The stalls there are reporting brisk sales around 50 kilos are sold every day and the animal resource development department is in fact finding it hard to meet the demand of the babus, some of whom reach the stalls soon after they report for duty. In any case the babus cannot not be blamed. While markets all over Kolkata sell chicken at a steep Rs 180-185 a kg,the secretariats price is Rs 132 a kg.

Why did government chief whip Sovandeb Chattopadhyay hide for more than hour in his anti-chamber at the Assembly sometime ago? It was found out that the furniture and doors of his chamber were being given a fresh coat of paint and the chief whip stained his kurta with the paint. While he sent for a fresh set of kurta-pajamas from home,he took off his kurta and sat inside his anti-chamber with only his vest on. It was after the new kurta arrived that Chattopadhyay emerged from his anti-chamber.

PWD and Environment Minister Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar invited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees ire over the alleged poor performance of his department. At a meeting with the minister and officials of his department last week,Mamata lost her cool at the minister in front of other officials, including Principal Secretary,PWD,Indeevar Pandey. Sudharshanda, aapni PWD chehere din, aapnar dara hobe na,Indeevar Pandey dekhe nebe. (You give up PWD,Indeevar Pandey will take care of it), Mamata shouted. Later,Pandey told people close to him that he was keen on leaving the state and work in Delhi.
Due to the ongoing panchayat elections, almost all ministers are out campaigning for the ruling party. A large number of officials, too, have been sent to poll duty. Consequently, work at Writers Buildings seems to have come to a standstill. Babus, who hardly have any work now, leave for the day early with the entire state secretariat going empty by 2 in the afternoon.
