Kolkata: Four people suffered critical burn injuries after a fire broke out at an oil refinery in Haldia in East Midnapore on Friday. Sources said 11 workers were injured in the fire incident,of them four are in a critical condition and shifted to Kolkata hospitals. Police said the injured people are contractual staff members of the refinery who were assigned the maintenance work of an oil tank in the refinery. The fire broke out in a pipeline carrying diesel to a tank at 1.15 pm. Six fire engines rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control in half an hour. Sukesh Jain,SP of East Midnapore said: The company deployed its own fire fighting system and the fire was doused soon.
Suchitra breaks wrist,undergoes surgery
Kolkata: Legendary actress Suchitra Sen underwent an operation on her left wrist joint which suffered a dislocation on Thursday night. Her her condition was stated to be stable by doctors attending her.
The 82-year-old actress was admitted to a private clinic in south Kolkata Thursday night after she suffered a fracture on her left wrist joint after a fall at her residence,a source close to Suchitras family said. She underwent a surgery and her condition is stable, Dr Subrata Maitra said. The actress was kept under observation at the ICU of the clinic. The iconic Bengali actress is known for leading areclusive life,shunning the limelight ever since she retiredfrom the screen in 1978.
Bangladesh hopeful of Teesta treaty
Kolkata: Bangladesh is optimistic about a Teesta water-sharing treaty with India taking shape despite opposition from West Bengal,the country’s Commerce Minister Golam Mohammad Kader in Kolkata on Friday. Indian Prime Minister has agreed to the treaty in principle and is trying to resolve the matter, Kader said.
