Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today urged all radicals to drop guns and join the development process.

“We do not want guns; we want peace,” the CM said during her rally speech at Bagmundi in Purulia,one of the three Left Wing Extremism-affected districts,the other two being Bankura and West Midnapore — where she attended meetings with officials of the district administration to take stock of the developmental process.

Mamata also took the opportunity to announce a slew of programmes,among them include a stadium and an institute for mountaineering at Ayodhya hills in Pururlia.

For the parched district,Mamata also declared that a water treatment plant with Japanese loan will be set up there. “Japan will provide Rs 1,300 crore for water treatment projects and the entire money will be given to Purulia,’’ she said.

To encourage the cultivation of lac and onion in the district,the state government will provide active support,the CM said,adding that assistance will be given to folk artistes who live in distress.

Mamata is scheduled to address a public meeting at Shilda in West Midnapore on Wednesday.
