Dhapa murder: TMC councillor produced in Kolkata court

The arrested Trinamool Congress councillor,Sambhunath Kaw,was brought to Kolkata on Saturday morning.

The arrested Trinamool Congress councillor,Sambhunath Kaw,was brought to Kolkata on Saturday morning. Kaw,who was absconding since March 20,was arrested on Friday from a village in Uttar Pradesh. He is accused in the incident of killing a Trnamool worker -Adhir Maity – in Dhapa area on the eastern fringes of the city.

Kaw was produced in a court,which rejected his bail plea and remanded him in police custody till April 17. He was arrested from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday and brought to the city on transit remand. Before being produced in court he was taken to SSKM Hospital for medical examination followed which he was taken to city police headquarters for questioning.

On March 20,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered Kaw’s arrest,hours after the death of party worker Adhir Maity. Maity died after a scuffle with a group of people led by Kaw following a dispute over a plot of land in Dhapa area.
