Joint Commissioner of Police,Crime,Damayanti Sen is likely to be posted out of the Kolkata Police — a development that has created ripples in the police administration. Sources said the Police Establishment Board, during a meeting at the state secretariat, has recommended that Sen be given the charge of deputy inspector general, police training school at Barrackpore — a relatively low-profile posting.

Sen is believed to have earned Chief Minster Mamata Banerjee’s ire over the Park Street rape incident. While Mamata had since beginning described the incident as “fabricated to malign the government”,Sen had declared that there was truth in the victim’s complaints.

This had led to a huge public outcry with Mamata’s comments being severely criticised.

As soon as the case was cracked, Sen and other police officers were summoned to Writers’ Buildings by the CM. Later,Sen and Jawed Shamim, another senior officer, were asked to address the media in which they said it was not any individual but “team effort” that helped crack the case .

Sen,sources said ,wanted to go on a central deputation well before the Park Street incident. Certain other senior officers of the city police and those posted in Jungelmahal area are also likely to be transferred.
