CPM MLA Sujan Chakraborty has written a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over “discrimination” in alleged distribution of FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 tickets among MLAs in the state Assembly. Tickets for FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 matches were allegedly distributed among MLAs on Saturday by Trinamool Congress Chief Whip in the Assembly Nirmal Ghosh. Opposition MLAs, however, alleged they were kept in the dark about it. In a letter to Mamata dated October 7, Chakraborty said tickets were distributed among select MLAs.
“Although the Assembly was closed on Saturday, tickets for the ongoing FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup were distributed from the chamber of Trinamool Congress Chief Whip Nirmal Ghosh. Opposition MLAs were not aware of it. I took the matter with the Speaker of the Assembly. He too was not aware about it. This distribution of tickets by keeping the Opposition MLAs in the dark is unprecedented and goes against the etiquette of Parliament democracy,” Chakraborty wrote in the letter. He, however, said Left Front MLAs were not demanding tickets.
“We feel that if the Assembly or the state government is distributing such tickets, then every MLA should get it. We are seeking your intervention regarding this, and are hoping that you would let us know what action you have taken,” the CPM MLA said. Ghosh was unavailable for comment.
