The killers of constable Asim Kumar Dam,who was beaten for trying to save a girl from being molested, are still on the run but a blame game has already begun over the murder.

Political leaders were busy explaining that the offenders did not belong to their parties and the police kept shifted the blame to each another as to why the relatives of the deceased colleague were turned away when they went to file a report.

Trinamool leader and minister Madan Mitra visited the Dam residence today. “It is a very unfortunate incident. I talked to his family members. I will give the report to the chief minister. All those who were involved in the incident were CPM supporters,” he said.

Asked if the government will give a job to one of the family members, now that the sole bread-earner is no more,he said he would see what could be done and assured all cooperation.

A local CPM leader, however, claimed the offenders were Trinamool cadres. “Those people are active TMC supporters and known for their hooliganism here, which has increased manifold since the new government came to power,” he said.

Officials of Airport police station said they were investigating but nothing concrete had materialised. “All of them, residents of Nimta, have been identified but they are absconding. Raids are on and hopefully there will be a breakthrough soon,” said DP Pan,OC,Airport PS.

Talking about the refusal to file a complaint, top cops of both the commissionerates shifted the onus on one another. “There was no such thing at the Airport police station and if it had happened at Nimta police station,it is under the jurisdiction of Barrackpore commissionerate,” said Subrata Bandopadhyay DC (HQ),Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

Kallal Ganai,DC (HQ),Barrackpore Commissionerate said,“They could not have come to Nimta PS. The place where the incident took place falls under Airport PS. I have been given a report but there is no mention of a refusal to take a report.”

On Thursday,Dam,a constable with Entally PS,was attacked by youths after he protested against their comments and advances towards Dam’s niece. A complaint was lodged at Airport PS against seven youths.
