Buoyed by the recent victory in the panchayat elections in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress feels that it could win more than 30 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state when the next general elections will be held.
Going by the panchayat election results,we are expecting to win over 30 seats in the Lok Sabha. It could be even more as people are rejecting the CPM and Congress alike with every passing day, Trinamools national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy told The Indian Express.
Dismissing the Left Fronts allegations that massive rigging took place in the recently concluded rural polls,Roy,considered second only to party chief Mamata Banerjee in the Trinamool, said the results corresponded to the high turnout of voters in the elections. They (CPM) did not see anything wrong on the polling days when over 70-80 per cent voters turned up with their voter-ID cards. They thought things were wrong only when the results were out, he said.
Alleging a secret understanding between the Congress and the CPM,he said: The two parties have failed to eat into our vote share. In fact,in the few places where the CPM won, they actually bagged what used to be the Congress votes.
He said the TMC would remain equidistant from both the Congress and the BJP,and would strive for the formation of federal front.
