Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday instructed the state education department to expedite construction work of Aligarh Muslim University’s off-campus in Murshidabad by excluding the 15 acres of disputed land. “The previous government had decided to set up the university on 288 acres, but they did not look into the problems of the owners of the land who were not willing to give up 15 acres. So I have instructed the higher education department to complete the work in the remaining 273 acres,” she said.

The CM said the state government is promulgating an ordinance so that institutions under Ramkrishna Mission (RKM) could get autonomous status and can conduct their own examination. If an ordinance is promulgated then RKM authorities could directly hire teachers without waiting for the SSC results.
