CHIEF Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and president of the Yuva Trinamool Congress,Abhishek Banerjee,on Monday served a legal notice to senior CPM leader Gautam Deb asking him to express apology before the public for his remarks passed in a rally on Sunday. On Sunday,Deb,the former housing minister, had alleged that Abhishek was involved with a “chit fund” company named Leaps and Bounds.

“My client felt that the comment was highly defamatory and damaged his reputation,” said his counsel Rajdeep Mazumdar. In the legal notice,Banerjee said that he would file both criminal defamation and civil defamation suits against Deb if he did not apologise within 72 hours.

Deb rubbished the notice and said he has enough evidence against Banerjee. “If he has the courage let him take the matter to the court.”
