As the Centre prepares to send a team to Khanakul where one person died in clashes between Trinamool and CPM cadres,CPM general secretary Prakash Karat has said the delegation from New Delhi is welcome but should act without bias.

“Let them come and see. Everyone knows who is instigating violence in Bengal. It’s better that they see the real picture,” said Karat, who arrived here today to attend the two-day state committee meeting starting tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the police today arrested three persons allegedly belonging to the CPM in connection with the Khanakul violence that broke out on Thursday.

“We are investigating on the basis of the complaints lodged by the injured officer in-charge and the wife of the killed villager Ananta Dolui. More are likely to be arrested since as many as of 38 have been named in the FIRs,” said a senior officer at the Khanakul Police Station.

Sources said the state CPM brass has asked its Hooghly leaders to restrain from clashes and violence,at least till the central team visits Khanakul. “Once the team arrives,we are sure we will be able to convince them about the Maoists’ links with the Trinamool. There is enough evidence,” said a senior CPM leader.

There are apprehensions in Left circles that by sending a team, the Union government could be moving toward the imposition of Article 356. “The Supreme Court has already said it will be unconstitutional if an elected government is dismissed,’ said Karat, when asked about Mamata Banerjee’s demand for the imposition of Article 356 in West Bengal.
