Popular Bengali actor Srabanti Chatterjee, who had joined the BJP before the West Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year, quit the saffron party on Thursday, claiming that it had taken no “initiative” to further the cause of Bengal.

Srabanti lost to TMC heavyweight and state minister Partha Chatterjee in the elections.

Srabanti tweeted: “Severing all ties with the BJP, the party for which I fought the last state elections. Reason being their lack of initiative and sincerity to further the cause of Bengal.”

The state BJP unit said it was a “good riddance”, claiming that it wouldn’t impact the party.
