Bengal: Kudmis vandalise Dilip Ghosh’s house
They allegedly broke window panes and doors of the house. Ghosh was, however, not present at his residence during the attack as he was in Delhi. Police later reached the spot and removed the protesters from the area.
A group of people belonging to a Kudmi outfit allegedly vandalised the residence of BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh at Kharagpur in Paschim Medinipur district on Wednesday and demanding an apology for reportedly “insulting” the community.
According to reports, members of the Adivasi Kurmi Samaj Purulia Zilla Committee reached Ghosh’s rented accommodation holding flags and posters in Kharagpur. They allegedly broke window panes and doors of the house. Ghosh was, however, not present at his residence during the attack as he was in Delhi. Police later reached the spot and removed the protesters from the area.

Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Ghosh alleged that TMC workers were behind the attack.
“The TMC is doing this. They have brought in some members of their party disguised as Kudmis to create this disruption. I have supported Kudmis in their demand for a ST status. The TMC is only trying to divert attention from the burning issue by misinterpreting my statements which I made some days ago,” said Ghosh.
The BJP leader had made certain remarks about the Kudmis when he got stuck due to a demonstration by the community over their demand for ST status. It took place a few days back when the Medinipur MP was on his way to Jhargram.

Reacting to Ghosh’s allegations, the TMC asked hin to apologise to the community for making such derogatory comments.
“Our workers were not involved in the vandalism. He has insulted the Kudmis and they have made a spontaneous protest. Instead of putting the blame on us, he should tender an apology for hurting the sentiments of the Kudmi community,” said TMC’s Paschim Medinipur district leader Ajit Maity.
