As winter approaches, West Bengal is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures, according to the IMD. Over the next five days, night temperatures are expected to decrease by 3-4 degrees Celsius in districts along the Ganga river. Light fog will likely envelop the region in the morning and evening. Some areas of Malda, North and South Dinajpur may experience dense fog, leading to reduced visibility. The minimum temperature in Kolkata is projected to hover around 20 degrees Celsius, with clear skies throughout the day. However, light fog and haze may obscure morning visibility.

Today, the mercury in Kolkata fell to 20 degrees, while in West Purulia, the mercury fell to 16 degrees. Jhargram, Sriniketan, and Panagarh recorded 17 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, due to the free passage of the western monsoon, favorable conditions have been created for strong winds to blow over the state. The amount of water vapor in the air is 40 to 93 percent.

However, even if the mood of winter slowly grips people, it will not be cold enough in November to qualify for the season just yet— the IMD predicts a harsh “winter” chill only in mid-December. For now, at night, the mercury in Kolkata may drop to 19 degrees on Monday. Daytime temperatures have already dropped to 29.4 degrees, which is only one and a half degrees below normal.
