Unseeded Ayush Dharewa today toppled third seed Prateek Pushkar Baxi of Chattisgarh on the third day of Treat Joosi AITA BTA Championship Series 2009 being held in memory of Dilip Bose at the BTA Complex here.
In a match that went the full distance,Ayush defeated Baxi 7-5,5-7,6-3 in the boys under-18 singles quarter-finals.
In the second upset of the day,Om Dalvi of Maharashtra stunned second seed Sunny Dahiya of Haryana 5-7,4-6 to make the semis.
Top seed Bibaswan Deb and fourth seed Prem Singh have already secured last four berths,registering easy wins over their respective opponents. Deb beat Sanjib Regius Kerketta 6-1,6-4,while Prem Singh had to struggle past Ansh Patel of Gujarat 4-6,6-4,6-1.
In the boys under-14 singles quarter-finals,eighth seed Rahul Somani from Andhra defeated the second seed Kuwar Singh Tater of Assam 6-3,6-3. The semi-final line up for this event is Nishanth Anthony Rebello and Rahul Somai from Andhra Pradesh,Ishank Ravi from Bihar and P Vignesh Prabhu from Tamil Nadu.
In the girls singles under-14,there was a mini upset as local girl and fifth seed Aandrita Deb beat third seed Lavanya Sarvanan of Tamil Nadu 6-1,6-4.
The semi-finalists are top seed Megha Sehrawat of Delhi,fifth seed Aandrita Deb of West Bengal,Devanshi Bhimjyani of Maharashtra and Shreya Pasricha of Uttar Pradesh.
Megha Sehrawat of UP scripted an upset in the girls under-18 singles as she beat third seed Mohana Sarker 4-6,7-5,6-4.
In the second upset,seventh seeded Pamir Gogoi from Assam beat second seeded Manuella Gomes from Delhi 2-6,6-3,6-1.
The other semi-finalists are Amrita Mukherjee,the top seed from Kolkata and unseeded Shreya Pasricha from Uttar Pradesh.
