Arrested ‘Maoist’ pleads for death

An undertrial prisoner accused of being a Maoist has written to Governor M K Narayanan pleading for the death sentence as he was unable to bear the agony of being behind bars while his family starved.

An undertrial prisoner accused of being a Maoist has written to Governor M K Narayanan pleading for the death sentence as he was unable to bear the agony of being behind bars while his family starved. The prisoner,Siddhartha Mondal,at the Alipore Correctional Home claiming that he was falsely accused has also written to the judge of the Alipore fast track court appealing that he be either released immediately or be given a death sentence,jail superintendent C R Gorai told PTI here. Gorai said,“He has written in his letter that he is no longer able to bear the agony of jail life,while his family and little children are starving”.
