Ardhendu set to become chief secy

A major bureaucratic re-shuffle is on the cards as Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti is retiring at the end of this month.

A major bureaucratic re-shuffle is on the cards as Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti is retiring at the end of this month. While Ardhendu Sen,the present Home Secretary is going to replace Chakrabarti,Samar Ghosh,the present Principal Secretary for Health and a 1977-batch IAS officer is going to replace Sen.

Sen,meanwhile,will hold the post of chief secretary for six months only as he is going to retire on September 30 this year,a top government source said.

Ghosh will be replaced by Manabendranath Roy,the present Secretary for Panchayat and Rural Development. However,the government has not found any replacement for him.

In another development the state government has stripped Food Commissioner P S Katireshan of his additional charge of the Department of Fire Services. Secretary for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Alapan Bandopadhyay will hold the additional charge of fire services.

The move is seen as a fall out of the Stephen Court fire incident last month,in which 43 people lost their lives.

The state government has also taken a revolutionary step as Shyam Lal Bhagat,a WBCS officer has been promoted to the post of secretary and has been put in charge of the Department of Civil Defence. At present,Commissioner,Jalpaiguri division,A K Singh had additional charge of civil defence.
