Another aide of TMC strongman Jayant Singh was arrested on Thursday in connection with a video that had surfaced online showing a teenager being sexually assaulted inside the Ariadaha Taltala Sporting Club in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

Officials of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate identified the arrested person as Prasen Das alias Laltu, who was allegedly seen in the video squeezing the teenager’s private parts with a tong.

“He was arrested this morning. Everyone who was part of the incident will be arrested,” said a police officer.

Besides Laltu, the police have arrested Jayant Singh, a strongman known to be close to TMC Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra, and seven others in connection with three videos of atrocities that allegedly took place inside the club. The videos triggered outrage after they surfaced online.

One of the videos purportedly showed Jayant Singh’s aides holding a person by their hands and legs while others hit them with sticks. He has at least nine cases booked against him on charges including murder and attempt to murder in Belgharia and Dakshineswar.

The video-related cases against Jayant Singh and his aides have been registered under BNS sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

When The Indian Express reached Laltu’s home in Ariadaha on Tuesday, after the video surfaced online, his elderly father said, “My son doesn’t stay with us any more ever since he got married. He is close to Jayant Singh, but we don’t know what he has done.”
