A fire broke out in passenger vessel MV Harshavardhan anchored at Kidderpore dock for repairs on Tuesday afternoon.

Anchored ship catches fire

Kolkata:A fire broke out in passenger vessel MV Harshavardhan anchored at Kidderpore dock for repairs on Tuesday afternoon. Ten cabins,including the captain’s,were gutted. Six fire tenders were pressed into service,and the fire was brought under control in four hours. There has been no casualty and the extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained. The ship belonged to Shipping Corporation of India.

Fresh petition sought on commissionerate

Kolkata:The Calcutta High Court Tuesday asked the petitioner,who had challenged the government’s decision to vest the power of executive magistrate to the Commissioner of Bidhan Nagar Police Commissionerate,to file a fresh application. The court asked the petitioner to challenge the January 5 notification that paved the way for setting up of Bidhan Nagar Police Commissionerate.

From now,no ayahs at SSKM Hospital

Kolkata:SSKM Hospital has decided to do away with ayahs following complaints regarding mishandling of patients and demanding money from relatives of patient. A total of 140 ayahs work at the hospital.
