Adhir’s bail plea to be heard on Oct 29

The anticipatory bail plea of Adhir Ranjan Choudhury,who was served with an arrest warrant last week,would be heard on October 29.

Chief Judicial Magistrate of Berhampore Oly Biswas had served the arrest warrant on the union minister of state for railways for complicity in murder and other related charges.

“The balil plea was filed yesterday. The Sessions Judge of Murshidabad Asit Kumar Dey late this evening fixed the date of hearing on October 29,” Shubanjan Sengupta,lawyer for the minister,told The Indian Express from Berhampore.

Asked what the minister would do if he is arrested,the lawyer said: “The judge has not given any interim order,so the police are free to do what they like.’’ Choudhury,who is in Delhi now,has filed the petition after consultations with the party high command.

Meanwhile,the police refused to divulge their plan of action. ‘You please wait and watch. This is what I can tell you,’’ Humayun Kabir,SP,Murshidabad,told The Indian Express from Berhampore.

Choudhury has been charged with the murder of a Trinamool Congress worker,Kamal Shaikh,on May 15,2011 at Berhampore. Shaikh was murdered in front of his daugther at the marketplace in broad daylight.

The union minister has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of framing him in a false case and throwing him behind bars so that the Congress is decimated in Murshidabad.

Thursday,the Congress,which has already launched an agitation against Adhir’s arrest warrant,will gherao police stations of the district in protest against the alleged harassment of Choudhury.
