Complaint submitted to court for action

Birbhum district administration’s much-delayed action against the Trinamool district president Anubrata Mondal has miffed the State Election Commission, which has been constantly nudging the DM and the SP to take action against the leader for his open threat to the police as well as Independent candidates on July 17 in the run-up to fourth phase of the panchayat polls. But now, with the Birbhum District Magistrate J P Meena lodging a complaint with the Parui police station, the SEC believes that Mondal could soon face legal music.

The complaint against Mondal was lodged on Tuesday under sections 189 (threat of injury to public servant) and 505 (1)(b) of the IPC (with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public). With both being non-cognizable offences, the complaint was submitted to the magistrate of Suri court on Wednesday.

The police will have to act on the direction of the magistrate as in such cases, they cannot arrest the accused person without the order of the court.

Meanwhile,a nervous looking Mondal rushed to offer a puja at Tarapeeth in Birbhum. A shaky Mondal tried to brush aside the DM’s complaint and the fear of arrest. “I am on way to the Kali temple at Tarapeeth now. I am going not for myself, but to pray for my party,”

he said.

“I have explained to my party and my leader Mamata Banerjee that it was a slip of tongue as I became over emotional. It was my love and respect for the party, and I want to see my party win all the zilla parishad seats in this district,” he added.
