(Representational Image) A family of three died after their house caught fire late Saturday night in Uluberia area of Howrah district, police said on Sunday. The three, identified as Yasin Mallick (32), Mahima Begum (27) and their daughter 10-month-old Humaira Khatun, were sleeping inside the house when the fire broke out.
Police said Yasin’s mother Nurjahan Begam was also present in the house when the fire broke out. She sustained 60 per cent burn injuries and is currently in critical condition.

According to sources, prima facie, it appears that the fire may have broken out due to a short circuit. As per police, neighbours alerted them early Sunday morning after seeing smoke coming out of the house.
A police team and fire tenders reached the spot and found three bodies, they added. “The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to find out the exact cause and time of death,” said a police official. Police said they do not suspect any foul play. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
