The parents of the woman doctor, who was raped and murdered at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, joined a 20-kilometre “Justice March” on Saturday, demanding swift action from the government into the proceedings of the case.

The march began at HB Town intersection in Panihati and included doctors, medical students, and members of the civil society, who gathered in Sodepur, in the North 24 Parganas district and marched towards Esplanade in central Kolkata.

The march was intended to join forces with junior doctors who have been protesting at Esplanade since August 9. The protesters chanted slogans calling for justice for the victim and raised awareness about the urgent need to address safety concerns in medical institutions.

The junior doctors, citizens, and the parents expressed their unwavering determination to seek justice for their daughter and also emphasized the need for patience while the investigation continues, expressing trust in the CBI’s efforts.

The junior doctors, who have been on an indefinite hunger strike, in solidarity with the victim’s family, voiced their deep concern about the incident. The victim’s parents, meanwhile, assured that they would ensure proper medical care for any participating doctor who may require it.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and find a solution to the ongoing deadlock as well as the urgent need for a fair outcome.
