10 days later,no arrest in Naren Dey assault case

Minister for parliamentary affairs Partha Chatterjee had earlier given a statement in the state Assembly that the culprits would be arrested soon and punished.

On December 8,a group of alleged Trinamool Congress goons barged into the FB office at Cinematolla in Dhaniakhali and beat several leaders. Dey,80,and three others received severe injuries and were admitted to hospital. They have been discharged since.

“My vision has been affected and I am undergoing treatment. I thought,being an old man and a former minister,they would spare me. But it was in vain,” Dey told The Indian Express from his house at Chinsurah.

Meanwhile,a delegation of Left Front MPs and MLAs,led by CPM parliamentary party leader Basudeb Acharya,will meet President Pranab Mukhrjee Wednesday to apprise him,among other things,of the brutal attack on Dey.

Acharya said his delegation would submit a memorandum to the President.

“I have heard people named in FIR are moving freely but the police are not doing anything. The President should know about this and intervene,” Acharya told The Indian Express from Delhi.

Asima Patra,Trinamool Congress MLA from Dhaniakhali,claimed she has nothing to do with the incident and that the administration was investigating into the incident. “Why are you telling me about this. The administration is investigating and it is they who will take the action,” Patra said.
