Kausar Bi was raped by a sub-inspector,who was part of the ATS team involved in the Sohrabuddin encounter case,before she was murdered,a police official then posted with the anti-terror squad has told the CBI investigating the case.
On Wednesday,the counsel of Sohrabuddin’s brother Rubabuddin Sheikh had told court during a hearing of former minister Amit Shah’s bail plea that Kauser had been killed in the ATS headquarters.
This is the first time Kauser Bi’s alleged rape,before she was killed — allegedly at Shah’s behest — comes on record.
Ravindra Makwana,who was posted at the ATS office on the day of the Sohrabuddin encounter,testified about the rape in his statement to the CBI on August 25,which forms part of the supplementary chargesheet recently submitted by the probe agency in the special CBI court. Makwana has said that Balkrishan Chaubey,then a sub-inspector with the Gujarat ATS,had been assigned the task of guarding Kauser Bi after she was picked up,and had raped her.
An Assistant Sub-Inspector,Makwana is now posted with the Railway Police at Vadodara. He was posted with the ATS Headquarters in Ahmedabad between January 1,2005,and May 19,2006.
Makwana was on duty at the ATS as Police Station Officer (PSO) on the morning of November 26,2005,the time Sohrabuddin was killed allegedly in an encounter. He was the PSO who registered the FIR in the case.
In his statement,Makwana has stated that a few days after the Sohrabuddin encounter,“…I asked Ajay Parmar and Santram Sharma (Gujarat Police officials accused in the case and posted with the ATS at the time) with regard to the encounter of Sohrabuddin”.
Makwana has testified that Parmar told him that an ATS team consisting of Rajkumar Pandian,M L Parmar,N H Dabhi,Balkrishan Chaubey and N V Chauhan — all now accused — had gone to Hyderabad and picked up Sohrabuddin and Kauser from a luxury bus while they were on their way to Sangli.
The two were brought to Ahmedabad and kept at Arham Farm for two days,Makwana said. According to Makwana’s statement,Parmar told him Vanzara and Pandian were questioning Sohrabuddin at the farmhouse.
“With regard to Kauser Bi,I state that Ajay Parmar and Santram Sharma… stated that Chaubey,the then PSI,(who) was deputed to look after Kauser,raped her in farmhouse,” Makwana said in his statement.
Incidentally,the CBI had in an earlier chargesheet asked the court to discharge Parmar and Santram Sharma of all charges,stating they were important witnesses and that they were merely following orders of superiors. While Makwana’s statement had been recorded by the CBI earlier too,on April 22,2010 — and was part of the chargesheet it earlier submitted — he had not talked about Kauser being raped at the time.
