A scuffle between groups close to Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Jalandhar Central Raman Arora and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jalandhar Naresh Dogra late on Wednesday over a property dispute between two groups left three people injured.

On Thursday morning, police said that an FIR had been filed for attempt to murder and under SC/ST Act, but in the evening, police did a U-turn saying that no case was registered and a compromise has been reached between the two groups.

It was learnt that on Wednesday night a scuffle broke out between two groups over a dispute related to keeping things in front of each other’s shop at Shastri market.

Later both the groups gathered at a publication house to sort out the matter where both the MLA and the DCP initially had a heated exchange, but subsequently their supporters manhandled one another.

In the melee, three men were injured and admitted to the civil hospital where again they had a small fight. They also ransacked the hospital, which then had to call the police late at night to bring things under control. Later Commissioner of Police Gursharan Singh Sandhu ordered the two groups to file an FIR.

The incident was captured on mobile phone cameras. Arora said that he will provide the phone recordings to the commissioner of police and demand action against Dogra.

DCP investigation Jalandhar Jaskaran Singh Teja told reporters in the morning that they have registered a case, but he didn’t reveal the names of the accused. And in the evening police said no case was registered.

MLA Arora said that DCP Dogra’s behaviour was improper and he has a complaint against him. The Indian Express tried to contact Dogra, but he did not pick up his phone.

Also, a brief video of the scuffle was put on social media. An audio recording of Arora’s arguments with Dogra has gone viral.

In the evening a lady doctor at the civil hospital also complained to her seniors about hooliganism against a supporter of Arora at the hospital. Police are looking into it.
